Three Positive COVID-19 Cases Identified at Memorial
Wednesday, March 31, 2021
To: Parents/guardians of Memorial Composite High School,
Public Health staff are investigating three cases of COVID-19 at Memorial Composite School. The virus is passed from person to person through tiny droplets of liquid, spread by coughing, sneezing, talking, laughing and singing. This means that a person would need to have direct contact with droplets from a sick person or surfaces that they have recently touched. The risk of the general population in the school becoming infected because of these cases is low.
Part of the AHS investigation will determine if these individuals may have been at our school while infectious. To respect the privacy of these individuals, we are not in a position to disclose their personal information. However, we are able to share that the individual is currently isolating at home.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have already been in contact with the parents and guardians of the students who were in the same cohort as the individual who has been advised that they have tested positive. If you have not heard from us, then your child was not identified to be in the potentially impacted cohort.
- If staff or students have not been identified as a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case but develop symptoms as listed on the COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklist, please isolate at home and complete the AHS COVID-19 Self-Assessment tool or call Health Link at 811 as soon as possible to arrange for COVID-19 testing.
- If you or your child require medical attention, please call ahead to your health care provider or call Health Link at 811 to help guide you to the right care provider and make appropriate arrangements to care for yourself or your child safely.
- If this is an emergency and you or your child require urgent attention, call 911 and tell them that you or your child may have been in contact with COVID-19 so that they can make appropriate arrangements to care for you or your child safely.
All necessary protocols regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), physical distancing when possible, hand hygiene, and cleaning have been followed in accordance with our 2020-21 Plan for School Re-entry.
For questions about COVID-19, call 811 or visit the Parkland School Division COVID-19 Info page.
